History of infrastructure before the year 1445

Infrastructure of Bulgar period

All the sides of the fortress were surrounded by a trade-handicraft settlement, which in its turn together with the Kremlin, was encircled by defensive wall with towers-gates. The city market – Tashayak - was situated on the territory of modern Fair Square. Behind the walls of this settlement there were villages where lived craftsmen (for example, carpenters and ship-builders lived in the village Bishbalta – “Five axes”). In summer there took place different celebrations.  At this time the population of the city and its suburbs was several tens thousand of people.
