History of architecture before the year 1905

Architecture of the XIX century

To the galaxy of classic stone constructions that decorated the city at the beginning of the XIX century belong Galeev Mosque (today’s Tukay Street, 40), Iske-Tash (Mekhovshiks Street, 23), the Blue Mosque (Narimanov Street, 98) and some others.

But already in the middle of the century the classicism in Kazan architecture was gradually replaced by romanticism, and in the end of the XIX - beginning of the XX centuries – by eclecticism.

The most important construction that personified in itself the best traditions of Kazan architecture is the Asimov Mosque, built in 1887.
