1998 12 December – XV congress of the journalists’ Union of the Republic of Tatarstan was opened up.
1999 26 February – museum devoted to Baki (aga) Urmanche was founded at Shchapova str. 20 in Kazan.
1999 June – International conference looking at Kazan’s age was organized.
1999 30 August – the only monument in the world to Fyodor I. Shalyapin was opened.
1999 1 September – Russia’s President Boris N. Yeltsin issued an edict on celebrating Kazan’s 1000th Anniversary.
2000 3 February – XV international bandy tournament sponsored by the Russia’s government was held in Kazan.
2000 September – 16 year-old gymnast Anastasia Kolesnikova from Kazan won silver medal at Olympics in Sydney in 2000. Honoured Master of Sports in trap and skeet shooting Svetlana Demina also became a silver medal winner. And Honoured Master of Sports in triple jump Denis Kapustin became a bronze medallist.
2000 15 December – the Kazan Kremlin was put on the List of the worldwide heritage of UNESCO.
2000 16 December – the State large concert hall of the Republic of Tatarstan was named after composer Salikh Saidashev. |
