There will not be an atomic power station in Tatarstan

Tatar nuclear power station, which was supposed to be built, is not to be built. The proper paragraph is to be deleted from a bill “On approving the program of RT socio-economic development 2005-2010 ” on the next session of the RT State Council. The chairman of a parliamentary committee on economy, investment and entrepreneurship Marat Galeyev notified it on a special press-conference.

A paragraph on building the nuclear power station still is on the program of republican socio-economic development. The deputies will suggest excluding the item about the atomic power station when the bill is given the second reading in the next session. However, the decree of the TASSR Supreme Council dated April 17 1990 having blocked the construction of the nuclear station, bars the return to the atomic project. Nobody abolished the document .There is a fundamental agreement with the RT Government about removal of the clause on atomic station from the program. Marat Galeyev reported that the cabinet agrees with it. Moreover, the deputy emphasized that nobody rejects another energy project, which is also on the program. The matter concerns finishing the construction of Nizhnekamsk hydroelectric power station and the rise of water-level. Marat Galeyev presumes that though the atomic power station and the hydroelectric power station go together on the bill they should be separated. Concerning the Kamskie Poliany citizens who sent a joint letter to the deputy asking to restart the construction of the atomic project Marat Galeyev presumes that a nuclear power station is matter of all the RT citizens but not only those in Kamskie Poliany.
