General director of UNESCO congratulated President of Tatarstan and all residents of the capital on the 1000-anniversary of Kazan

General director of the UNESCO Koitiro Matsuura congratulated President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev, mayor of city and all residents of capital on 1000-years anniversary of Kazan.

From time of my first official visit to Tatarstan has passed already more than two years, and I till now carefully keep memoirs on Kazan and its inhabitants, - is said in the congratulatory message. Koitiro Matsuura marks, that anniversary is not only an occasion for celebrating at a national level, but also for the international recognition of the important historical role of Kazan which during the thousand-year history has brought in the huge contribution to a world civilization as the largest center of culture, sciences, trade and the industry. Kazan is said in the congratulatory message, - with its delightful Kremlin, temples and museums has been brought in the list of the World Heritage and is awarded with a number of premiums and medal of the UNESCO for the significant contribution to preservation of historical and cultural traditions.
