M.Shaimiev discussed problems of Tatarstan writers with chairman of RT Union of writers

The issues worrying literary community of the republic before the next congress of writers planned to hold on May 27 were discussed today at the Kazan Kremlin during the meeting between President of Tatarstan Mintimer Shaimiev and chairman of the RT Union of writers Foat Galimullin.

Mainly, the issue was about today's condition of Tatarstan literatures - both Tatar and Russian (today in the Union more than 40 writers writing in Russian - in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Almetyevsk), and about problems of development of the literature as a whole.

One of the most actual in this connection was the issue of translation of the Tatar authors in Russian. Certainly, as Foat Galimullin noted, in this direction the certain steps have been made. For example, seventh issue of magazine " Nash Sovremennik " consists only of works by writers of Tatarstan, similar arrangements are maintained with " Druzhba narodov", and some St.-Petersburg magazines. However, to be limited only to this way is impossible. Today, in opinion of chairman of the RT Union of writers of republic, it is necessary to solve the problem at level of publishing houses, and for this purpose it is necessary to adjust translational activity.
